The single also topped the charts in the U.K. In 1998, The Offspring released the massive hit single “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy).” The song entered five Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100. The outstanding sales performance led to multiple platinum certifications in ten countries. The album spawned several great hits, such as “Gotta Get Away,” “Self-Esteem,” and “Come Out and Play.” The record, which was regarded as helping bring punk to the mainstream market, sold over 11 million copies worldwide, six million of which were sold in the U.S. Besides the U.S., the album also entered the charts in 15 other countries, making it The Offspring’s first international success. The record, released through Epitaph Records, peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Heatseekers chart.
In 1994, the band achieved their first breakthrough with their third album, Smash. The critically-acclaimed record showcased the band’s hard-edged sound, evident in the album’s lead single, “I’ll Be Waiting.”
They released their self-titled debut album in 1989.
Alongside renowned names like Green Day, NOFX, and Bad Religion, The Offspring was revered for helping revive the punk movement. The Offspring is one of the leading purveyors of punk rock music during the ‘90s.
